MAPAPA 2nd Sunday Paint Out Southwest Waterfront - Washington, DC

Image result for southwest waterfront dc

Date: July 14, 2019

Host: Desiree Scherini

Registration Fee: None

Time: We will meet up at 9:30 at the Southwest Duckpond (6th and I Street Southwest, across from Arena Stage Theatre).  There should be street parking nearby which is free on Sundays.  There are also a couple of parking garages nearby which usually offer a discount if you are in by 9:00am.  This spot is just one block from the waterfront Metro stop (green line). The L'Enfant Plaza stop is about 3 blocks away with several other lines. Desiree will be happy to orient you to the area. If you have problems locating it, Desiree's cell is 443-694-5618.

Location: Within the Southwest Waterfront area, locations include the DC Wharf (sketching and watercolor only on the wharf as per management), the Fish Market, the Titanic Monument, the Southwest Duckpond, and the National Mall and Smithsonian buildings (4-5 blocks away).

From the Wharf there is also a free boat shuttle to Potomac Park across the water from the wharf.

If you choose to paint on the busy Wharf area, please choose a location out of the flow of pedestrian traffic.

The Wharf has public restrooms, and Desiree lives across from the duckpond and can let you into the lobby if you need one there.

There are several restaurants at the Wharf and a couple across from the waterfront Metro.  Desiree has suggested meeting up for a late lunch around 2:30 between the lunch and dinner crowds. If you want to stay longer and paint, this area has nice sunset views of the boats docked at the wharf.

Please check in with Desiree at the designated meeting time and place so that she knows you are there. If you come early and set up to paint, or get there late, please be mindful that it is up to you to find other artists if you want to meet up with them. It is so easy to miss each other in public spaces with large or no boundaries. Thank you and we hope to see you there!
